Authentic Maekake Aprons: Tradition Meets Functionality
Since the 14th Century
Maekake aprons have been an essential piece of workwear in Japan for centuries. Originally worn by pub workers and craftsmen to promote their businesses, these durable aprons represent a blend of tradition and modern utility.
Craftsmanship & Design
This Maekake apron is made from thick cotton canvas, ensuring durability and comfort. Inspired by the ornamental garments worn by sumo wrestlers, each apron is dyed with a rich indigo using traditional resist-dyeing techniques. This process allows the intricate white designs to shine through without fading or bleeding, even after multiple washes.
The apron’s belt, dyed in lucky red and white colors, provides sturdy lower back support when tied in the traditional fashion. It also features a roomy pocket on the right side for added functionality—perfect for tools, essentials, or even your phone.
Custom Fit for All
Designed for versatility, this apron comes in a one-size-fits-most design, making it perfect for use in the kitchen, behind the bar, or in a workshop.
Dimensions: 25" by 18"
Belt Length: 100"
Fits Waist Sizes: Up to 37 inches
Its thoughtful sizing, adjustable belt, and functional pocket ensure a comfortable, secure, and practical fit for a variety of uses.
Materials & Care
Material: 100% Cotton, heavy-duty canvas for a long-lasting feel.
Origin: Japan.
Care: Wash in cold water, separately from other fabrics as the dye may transfer. Avoid bleach, fabric softeners, and tumble drying. Expect slight shrinkage after the first wash due to the natural properties of cotton.
How to Wear
To tie the Maekake, breathe deeply, then exhale lightly as you wrap the belt ends tightly across your back, bringing them around to the front. Tie securely below the navel—this is believed to focus and balance your energy while offering back support for those long shifts.
